Elucidation of 3D DNA structure and genome sequences, together with insight in genome regulation by proteins, have helped to improve the understanding of inheritance, physiology and disease over the last decades and show promise to have a tremendous impact in therapeutics and personalized medicine in the next future. In this context, nanopore-based devices for DNA and protein analysis will enhance laboratories practice by permitting superior spatial and time analytical resolution, down to the single-molecule level, resulting in laboratory capacities of great impact. NEMATIC aims at developing a totally new analytical platform able to study the effects of proteins on nucleic acid structure and topology. Such analysis will be performed investigating electrically driven translocation events of DNA molecules through nanopore-based microarrays (NBM).
