The annotation focuses on the matter of access to derivative residence rights for third-country national parents of Union citizen children. It critically reviews the Chavez-Vilchez judgment in the light of the principles of proportionality and of the best interests of the child. The annotation also includes a specific gendered analysis of the case, of its legal and judicial background as well as of its implications for third-country national women who are mothers of Union citizen children.
